Social Work Internship Program (Spring, 2027)

Job Summary

Conduct clinical assessments, prepare individual mitigation plans to reduce detention, and divert clients to appropriate social services and treatment under supervision. Assist staff in identifying alternatives to incarceration and liaise with medical and psychiatric providers. Manage your own client caseload while conducting direct client contacts in jail, court, and community settings. Coordinate services and engage with community members to support clients within the criminal justice system. This unpaid internship runs from January to April 2027 for MSW students at SUNO, LSU, or Tulane University.

Required Qualifications

  • Master of Social Work (MSW)
  • demonstrated interest in serving underserved and marginalized communities
  • ability to work well with people of various socio-economic, racial, cultural and educational background
  • ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing with clients, staff, and members of the community
  • ability to be organized
  • ability to work independently
  • willingness to conduct direct client contacts in jail, court, and other community settings
  • willingness to engage with community members
  • willingness to coordinate services
