Job Summary
Social Studies Teacher at South County Academy responsible for delivering engaging social studies curriculum (American History, World History, literature) to high school students with significant emotional/behavioral needs in a clinical residential school. Develop and monitor student IEPs in accordance with Department of Education regulations and standards. Collaborate with the management team to ensure safety, stability and wellbeing of students placed through DCYF. This is a full-time 32-hour weekly, 185-day position with hours 8:30AM-3:00PM. Knowledge of medical records software, word processing, and database programs; Spanish speaking and multilingual skills are valued and compensated. Highly preferred candidates will have RI teaching certification, experience with behavioral/psychiatric challenges, and strong multitasking/communication abilities; willingness to participate in de-escalation training (Handle with Care). Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Teaching or Education
- RI certification as Teacher of regular or special education
- 3-5 years teaching experience preferred
- Experience with children with behavioral/psychiatric challenges
- Spanish Speaking preferred and is compensated
- Bilingual/ASL skills compensated
- Multilingual skills compensated
- Master’s degree extra $3,000
- Current driver’s license and reliable transportation
