Social Service Worker, Licensing - Family Adoption Consultants - Full-Time

Job Summary

Develop foster home licenses by conducting comprehensive assessments, completing licensing investigations, and monitoring ongoing compliance with state regulations. Directly work with biological families, foster families, and court staff to place and supervise children in foster homes while providing recruitment, retention, and crisis intervention services. Perform home visits, present child background information for placements, and prepare clear reports including legal documents and background checks. Maintain accurate confidential case records and ensure all activities adhere to agency policies, COA regulations, and federal requirements. Complete required training hours and navigate computer systems independently.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree with a major in one of the following human services areas: social work, sociology, psychology, family ecology, consumer/community services, family studies, family and/or child development, guidance/school counseling, counseling psychology, criminal justice, human services, interdisciplinary studies in social science, education, law enforcement, forensic psychology, behavioral science, gerontology, special education, education of the emotionally disturbed or educa...
  • One year experience as a social service worker
  • Valid Michigan Driver's License
  • Ability to meet agency requirements for driving insurability
  • Must not show any evidence or indication of the following behavior, which would constitute immediate grounds for dismissal: Any convictions involving child abuse or neglect
  • Must not show any evidence or indication of the following behavior, which would constitute immediate grounds for dismissal: Location on the Central Registry
  • Must not show any evidence or indication of the following behavior, which would constitute immediate grounds for dismissal: Any participation in the abduction, sale or trafficking of humans
  • Must not show any evidence or indication of the following behavior, which would constitute immediate grounds for dismissal: No unethical conduct impeding the best interests of children
  • Must not show any evidence or indication of the following behavior, which would constitute immediate grounds for dismissal: No felonies involving harm or threatened harm to an individual within the 10 years immediately preceding the date of hire
  • Must be able to meet agency requirements for criminal background and central registry checks
  • Must complete all initial and ongoing training requirements

Desired Qualifications

  • Knowledge of agency policy, procedures and overall operations
  • Knowledge of State and Federal social welfare laws and policies including DHHS policy, BCAL ISEP, the Child Protection Law and all relevant court requirements and procedures
  • High level of communication skills, decision making skills and problem solving techniques
  • Ability to navigate computer systems comfortably
  • Ability to work independently
  • Be of good moral character and demonstrate emotional stability, and professionalism
  • Development and maintenance of the ability, knowledge, experience, training and skills to perform duties and responsibilities of the position
  • One year experience as a social service worker and completion of training
