Social Service Coordinator (Part Time)

Job Summary

Assess residents requiring assistance with daily living, discharge planning, or crisis intervention, and coordinate home and community-based services within agency policies. Make referrals to community agencies, maintain resident files using social service software, and advocate for residents while building informal support systems. Develop resource directories, identify education and health programs, and publish the building newsletter to enhance quality of life. Fundraise for programs, report abuse or neglect, and collaborate with property management and professional organizations to support policy development and meet HUD requirements.

Required Qualifications

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED)
  • Minimum of two years related experience and/or training
  • Equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence
  • Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization
  • Knowledge of Spreadsheet Software (Excel)
  • Knowledge of Word Processing Software (Word)
  • Knowledge of Electronic Mail Software (Outlook)
  • Knowledge of Presentation software (PowerPoint)
  • Ability to effectively communicate with residents (handle concerns, complaints and issues)
  • Ability to interface and network with community organizations and provider agencies
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, multi-faceted and customer service-oriented environment
  • Ability to work as a team, interact with others in a professional/pleasant manner and exercise problem-solving skills
  • Ability to apply principles of logical thinking or define problems, collect pertinent data, establish facts, draw valid conclusions and initiate appropriate course of action
  • Ability to effectively communicate with a diverse population and group of personalities
  • Understanding of social service funding, eligibility and access to community services
  • Understanding of the neighborhood and available services
  • Excellent interpersonal relationship skills
  • Oral Communication - Speaks clearly and persuasively in positive or negative situations; listens and gets clarification; Responds well to questions; Demonstrates group presentation skills; Participates in meetings
  • Written Communication - Writes clearly and informatively; Edits work for spelling and grammar; Varies writing style to meet needs; Presents numerical data effectively; Able to read and interpret written information
  • Social Service software experience
  • Previous experience as a Social Service Coordinator
  • Access to reliable transportation
  • Capability to adapt, with minimal or no advance notice, to changes in how business is conducted and work is accomplished, with no diminishment in work performance
  • Must be able to lift and/or move up to 10 pounds
  • Must be able to frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds
  • Must be able to occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds

Desired Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree or Associates Degree in Social Work, Counseling, Sociology or other social science major
  • MSW or Masters in Counseling
  • Community organization
