Job Summary

Provide instruction, service, and support for college policies and procedures while adhering to course guidelines and outcomes. Facilitate classroom discussion, evaluate student performance with timely feedback, and maintain records of attendance and progress. Engage with students in group and one-on-one situations to support retention and success, utilizing technology and innovative approaches including the Canvas LMS. Work in a participatory, collegial setting to meet teaching deadlines for attendance and grading. This applicant pool is primarily for in-person, on-campus courses taught Monday through Friday in Tallahassee, Florida, with some evening and online options available via Zoom.

Required Qualifications

  • Master's degree in the specific teaching discipline (ex. History, Psychology, etc.)
  • Master's degree with at least 18 graduate semester hours in the specified discipline
  • Teaching experience
  • Commitment to student retention and success
  • Commitment to development and assessment of student learning
  • Use of technology and innovative approaches to enhance teaching and learning, including distance learning and alternative delivery systems
  • Willingness to support a population of learners inside and beyond the classroom
  • Ability to work in a participatory and collegial setting
  • Extensive knowledge of the subject area(s) in which the individual is responsible for instruction
  • Knowledge and understanding of the fundamentals of effective communication and of effective instruction
  • Knowledge and understanding of the characteristics and challenges of community college students
  • Knowledge and understanding of principles of curriculum development
  • Computer literacy and ability to navigate in a Windows environment
  • Knowledge and ability to use and navigate the Canvas Learning Management System
  • Engaging and focused on student success
  • Ability to interact with students in a group and one-on-one situations
  • Ability to meet teaching deadlines (i.e. attendance, grading)
  • Ability to work with students on their response to assignments in a timely manner
  • Ability to facilitate classroom discussion
  • Ability to evaluate student performance in a timely manner with timely feedback
  • Ability to adhere to course guidelines and outcomes
  • Ability to maintain records of student attendance, involvement and progress
  • Ability to be responsive and have frequent communication with students, colleagues and supervisors
  • Ability to teach a variety of courses within the discipline as needed
  • Level II Background Check
  • Passing of a drug test
  • Completion of a level 2 criminal background investigation

Desired Qualifications

  • Experience teaching in the Community College setting
