Job Summary
Develop and implement digital communications strategies for the CUNY Mexican Studies Institute, producing bilingual content for Instagram, Facebook, X, LinkedIn, YouTube, and TikTok. Create, schedule, and publish engaging material including written copy, graphics, and short-form video to promote academic programs, exhibitions, and community partnerships. Monitor audience engagement and performance metrics to inform future communication strategies and guide content optimization. Collaborate with faculty, students, artists, and community organizations to document research and strengthen the Institute's public identity across New York City.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Communications, Audiovisual Production, Journalism, Film, Digital Media, or a related field
- Minimum of two (2) years of professional experience in multimedia production, audiovisual production, video, photography, digital communications, or related fields
- Demonstrated experience in the design, implementation, and management of digital communications strategies and successful social media campaigns to drive audience growth, foster community engagement, and promote institutional programs and initiatives
- Proficiency in graphic design, photography, video editing, and digital content production tools, including Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Premiere Pro, Acrobat, etc.), Canva, WordPress, email marketing platforms, and other applications related to the creation, publication, and distribution of digital content
- Experience producing, editing, and publishing multimedia content for a variety of digital platforms, including photography, video, interviews, stories, reels, promotional campaigns, and digital storytelling projects
- Ability to conceptualize, develop, and adapt visual, audiovisual, and written content for Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn, YouTube, TikTok, X, institutional websites, and other emerging platforms
- Excellent writing, editing, and communication skills in both Spanish and English, with the ability to create high-quality bilingual content and tailor messaging to diverse audiences, formats, and communication channels
- A professional portfolio demonstrating experience in social media management, multimedia content production, communications campaigns, digital storytelling projects, and audience engagement and growth strategies
- Experience using social media management and scheduling platforms, as well as analytics, performance monitoring, reporting, and digital impact assessment tools
- Strong knowledge of major social media platforms, digital communications trends, audience development strategies, brand positioning, content optimization, and best practices for digital engagement
- Excellent organizational and project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously while maintaining high standards of quality, attention to detail, and timely delivery
- Ability to work collaboratively and effectively with faculty, students, artists, researchers, community organizations, cultural institutions, and other strategic partners
- Fluency in spoken and written Spanish and English
- Demonstrated interest in higher education, Mexican and Latino studies, culture, the humanities, academic research, the arts, community engagement, and public communications
- Excellent interpersonal skills and demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and effectively in multidisciplinary teams
- Ability to work independently, take initiative, and contribute to innovative communications, cultural outreach, and public engagement projects
- Knowledge of and sensitivity to Mexican, Mexican American, Latino, and immigrant communities, as well as experience working in academic, cultural, artistic, or community-based settings
Desired Qualifications
- Professional experience in higher education institutions, research centers, cultural organizations, museums, libraries, publishing houses, media organizations, community-based organizations, or nonprofit institutions
- Knowledge of the history, culture, and contemporary realities of Mexico, as well as the experiences of Mexican, Mexican American, Latino, and immigrant communities in the United States
- Demonstrated interest in the arts, literature, the humanities, cultural studies, academic research, and public-facing scholarship
- Experience promoting academic programs, research initiatives, publications, exhibitions, festivals, conferences, cultural projects, and community-based activities through digital platforms and communications campaigns
- Ability to develop innovative strategies for digital engagement, audience development, and online community building that foster dialogue, collaboration, and cultural exchange
- Knowledge of emerging trends in digital communications, multimedia production, visual storytelling, short-form video, and audience engagement strategies across digital platforms
- Experience working in multicultural environments and collaborating with diverse communities, particularly Spanish-speaking populations and organizations focused on education, culture, and social justice
- Ability to translate academic, cultural, and research-based content into accessible, engaging, and relevant communications for broad and diverse audiences
- Interest in contributing to the growth of the Mexican Studies Institute's public presence, educational mission, and cultural impact through creative communications and community engagement strategies
- Experience in photography, audiovisual documentation, multimedia production, or digital storytelling projects
