Job Summary
SES Specialist to provide technical advisory on UNDP Social and Environmental Standards (SES) across UNDP Yemen projects, including risk screening, SES documentation review (SESP, ESMPs, ESMF, SEP, LMP, GAP), and integration of conflict sensitivity, gender equality, and inclusion of vulnerable groups. Role includes capacity building for programme staff, ensuring SES compliance with donors and internal policies, integrating SES into procurement, conducting field monitoring (OHS, labour conditions, community health and safety, environmental risk mitigation), developing partnerships with implementing partners, supporting resource mobilization, and contributing to governance and risk-management activities. Requires an advanced degree with 5+ years (or BA with 7+ years) in social/environmental safeguards or related areas, English proficiency, and experience in safeguarding frameworks; Arabic is an asset.
Required Qualifications
- Advanced university degree (master's degree or equivalent) in Environmental Studies, Social Sciences, Development Studies, Environmental Management, or a related field
- Minimum 5 years (with master’s degree) or 7 years (with bachelor’s degree) of progressively responsible experience in social and environmental safeguards, risk management, or related areas
- Experience in the use of MS Word, Excel and web-based management systems and advanced spreadsheet/database skills
- English fluency; Arabic would be an asset
- Experience in capacity-building/training on environmental and social safeguards (SES/SESP)
- Desirable: UNDP SES experience, work in fragile contexts, donor safeguard familiarity
