Job Summary
SOAR Advocate assists individuals at risk for or experiencing homelessness who have a serious mental illness, medical impairment, or co-occurring substance use disorder to apply for Social Security disability benefits. Responsibilities include assisting clients with SSA/KDHE eligibility reviews, updating addresses and contact information to prevent benefit disconnections, entering data into the SOAR OAT system, participating in training, maintaining accurate records and timely documentation, developing knowledge of community resources, maintaining professional relationships with clients and partners, and engaging in ongoing professional development and licensure/certification activities.
Required Qualifications
- Associate’s degree plus two years’ experience in the health and human services field OR four years’ experience in the health and human services field is required
- Bachelor’s degree in psychology, social work, or counseling is preferred
- Must complete Case Management Training and provide certificate within 6 months of hire
- Must Complete SOAR Certification
- Computer skills in Microsoft Office programs and basic computer fluency
