Job Summary
Collect and analyze weather and snowpack data to assist in avalanche forecasting, assessment, and mitigation efforts. Perform front line Patrol duties daily, including skiing for opening and closing procedures, rope rescue skills, and lift evacuations. Document snow safety meetings, maintain clean workstations, and recognize slope safety hazards. Provide avalanche education and rescue training for Ski Patrollers while responding to medical emergencies. Maintain resort boundary rope lines, signage, and complete required training and explosive records. Work 40 to 48 hours weekly, including weekends and holidays during peak seasons, under extreme weather conditions.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum 5 years of ski patrol experience at a class A avalanche ski resort
- Current Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) or Outdoor Emergency Care (OEC). Wilderness First Responder (WFR) accepted with patient contact experience
- CPR certification required
- Maintain a California blasters license or have eligibility to obtain
- Avalanche Pro 1 certification
- Expert skiing ability
- Advanced snowmobile operation skills in a variety of terrain and snow conditions
- Must be able to pass federal and state background checks for the use and handling of explosives
- Must be available for weekends and holidays
- Must be available for six (6) days a week during busy periods
- Must be able to drive on hilly, snowpacked, and icy roads
- Must be willing to work in high winds, heavy snowfalls, low visibility, rain, and extremely cold or warm temperatures
- Must be able to lift 50 pounds
- Must be able to shovel deep, heavy wet snow weighing more than 50 pounds per shovel full
- Must maintain a professional appearance and wear a name tag and uniform at all times during scheduled shifts
- Must be aware of all safe skiing procedures, trail closures, and out-of-bounds policies of the mountain
