Job Summary
Transit Driver is responsible for providing safe, reliable, and courteous transportation to the public within the Smithers & District Transit service. Duties include operating transit vehicles on scheduled routes and curb-to-curb services, conducting pre- and post-trip inspections, collecting fares, selling tickets and bus passes, maintaining accurate records, ensuring vehicle cleanliness and proper operation, and assisting passengers, including individuals with varying abilities. The role emphasizes customer service, safety, confidentiality, and professionalism in interactions with passengers, families, staff, and community members. Training support may be provided to obtain the Class 4 Unrestricted Licence after one year of employment.
Required Qualifications
- Grade 12 Diploma or an equivalent combination of relevant education, training, and experience
- Possess a valid Class 4 Driver's Licence and maintain a clean driving record. A Defensive Driving Certificate is considered an asset.
- Demonstrated experience providing safe, reliable, and respectful transportation services, preferably for seniors, individuals with disabilities, or other vulnerable populations.
- Ability to work effectively with people from diverse backgrounds and demonstrate an understanding of the unique transportation needs and challenges faced by individuals with physical, cognitive, or mental health disabilities.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build positive relationships with clients, families, staff, and community partners.
- Current Occupational First Aid and Non-Violent Crisis Intervention certifications, or willingness to obtain and maintain them.
