SMH Employee CNA Program Application: Sarasota and Venice locations

Job Summary
Complete the SMH Accelerated 4-week CNA training or the 6-week program at Suncoast Technical College, including online didactic coursework, simulation lab skills training, and clinical experiences. Participate in a mandatory interview with the CNA Taskforce Panel, finish Relias assessments, and complete a shadow experience to confirm fit. Submit your high school diploma or GED to Human Resources and obtain supervisor approval before starting. Maintain Basic Life Support certification and ensure your unit maintains adequate staffing while you attend required hours. This internal program is available to eligible SMH employees at no out-of-pocket cost, with training offered at Sarasota and Venice locations.
Required Qualifications
- HS EQ: High School Diploma, GED or Certificate
- BLS: Basic Life Support/CPR
- Eligible employees must be in good standing, with no corrective actions/action plans on file for a minimum of 6 months from the start of training
- Employees must have supervisor/manager approval to participate in CNA training
- Employees must participate in an interview with the CNA Taskforce Panel
- All potential students must complete the assigned Relias assessments prior to the panel meeting
- Employees must take part in a shadow experience
- You must have your BLS certification before starting class
- Eligible employees need to submit their high school diploma or GED to Human Resources prior to being approved for training
- Eligible employees who would be eligible for promotion into a Patient Care Technician position (not for employees who are currently in positions with the same or higher pay grade)
- Employees who have resided in the state of Florida for at least one year (in order to qualify for the in-state tuition rate)
