Job Summary
Troubleshoot equipment onboard naval small boats and test craft, check functionality of newly installed equipment, and evaluate system performance while underway during actual operating conditions. Install, service, repair, and test marine inboard and outboard engines, including diesel engines, ensuring all work is performed safely in accordance with industry standards and best practices. Serve as chief engineer on Navy small craft for same-day trips when required. Candidates must possess at least five years of maritime engine repair experience, hold a current driver's license, and obtain a U.S. DoD Security Secret Clearance prior to start date. This role supports the Combatant Craft Division's design, research, development, testing, and evaluation of experimental watercraft for DoD clients at Naval Station Norfolk, VA.
Required Qualifications
- High School diploma or equivalent
- U.S. Navy, Coast Guard, OEM, or related trade school training
- Minimum of five (5) years of maritime engine repair experience
- Demonstrated ability to read, write and follow technical directives correctly
- Current Driver's License
- Must be able to be insured through company's vehicle insurance policy while driving work/government/rental vehicles during working hours, and for the duration of employment
- U.S. Citizenship
- Ability to obtain a U.S. DoD Security Secret Clearance prior to start date and maintain a Secret clearance throughout employment
- Ability to pass background screening to include SSN, Driver Record, and Criminal Background Investigation
- Must be available for first shift (0700-1530) or second shift (0830-1700)
- Must be able to lift (implied by work conditions including light lifting)
Desired Qualifications
- U.S. Navy, Coast Guard, OEM, or related trade school training
- Familiarity with Honda, Yamaha, Mercury, Evinrude and/or other common industry outboard/outdrive motors
- OEM Certifications
- Familiarity with MTU, Cummins, Caterpillar, or Steyr Diesel Engines
- CDL License with a clean driving record
- Familiarity with operating, maintaining and repairing small craft trailers, transporters and prime movers
