Job Summary
Reviewer/Editor/Certifier for DOJ Linguistic Support Services who will translate, transcribe, and interpret a wide range of sensitive materials (legal, medical, financial, historical, military, etc.). Duties include translating documents and media content (audio/video, CDs, WAV files) and providing court and deposition interpretation. Must handle terminology across diverse domains and ensure translations preserve tone and register, with strict confidentiality. Requires five years of relevant experience in the language, ILR 4, U.S. citizenship, and experience with law enforcement or legal departments; strong editing and English-language proficiency; CAT tool expertise (SDL Trados Studio); willingness to travel; and eligibility for Public Trust clearance. Location options include remote nationwide and National Capital Region with CONUS travel; some travel may be required.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum of five (5) years of experience in the required language with superior English and editing skills
- Qualifying scores ILR 4 minimum or equivalent on language/translation tests
- Must have lived 3 of the last 5 years in the U.S. (not obligated to be consecutive)
- Must have at least 1 year of experience working with a law enforcement and/or legal department
- Must be a U.S. citizen
- Proficiency in English and target language vocabularies in formal, legal, diplomatic, consultative, and casual contexts, including slang and regionalisms
- Knowledge of specialized vocabulary in both English and the foreign language related to varied Government roles and missions
- Ability to translate accurately without changes, omissions, or additions while preserving tone and register
- Adherence to linguist ethics
- Proficiency with Computer-Assisted Translation (CAT) tools, especially SDL Trados Studio
- Active Public Trust or higher security clearance
