Job Summary
Develop annual goals and short-term objectives based on students' present levels of performance, then deliver specially designed instruction in whole-group, small-group, and 1:1 settings using evidence-based strategies aligned with Ohio's Extended Standards. Draft, implement, and monitor Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) while collecting data to monitor student progress and inform instructional adjustments. Facilitate IEP meetings, ETR sessions, and collaborative planning with multidisciplinary teams, including school psychologists and general education teachers. Provide high-structure instruction in specialized units for students with autism, multiple disabilities, or significant behavioral needs, teaching functional life skills and implementing behavioral regulation strategies. Direct and mentor classroom instructional assistants and paraprofessionals to ensure effective service delivery. Maintain accurate documentation of safety incidents and behavioral crises, ensuring compliance with IDEA and state regulations. Manage complex schedules and meet strict legal deadlines while adapting to various instructional settings including inclusion, resource, and specialized units.
Required Qualifications
- Valid Ohio License: Intervention Specialist (Mild/Moderate K-12) AND/OR Intervention Specialist (Moderate/Intensive K-12)
- Bachelor's Degree in Special Education or related field
- Knowledge of IDEA, IEP development, and compliance requirements
- Must pass a criminal background check (BCI/FBI)
- Must be able to push, pull, lift and carry over 25 pounds on occasion
- Must be able to communicate with others
- Must be able to sit or stand and move around for extended periods of time
- Must be able to interact with unruly children
- This position may require driving to various school sites or events
Desired Qualifications
- Priority Preference: Experience working with students with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), Multiple Disabilities (MD), or significant behavioral needs (Moderate/Intensive)
- Certification or training in Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI)
- Experience in inclusive, co-teaching, or specialized instructional settings
- Familiarity with data-driven instruction and progress monitoring
