Job Summary
Report to the office for orientation on school policies, procedures, and the emergency plan, then check on student medical issues in the nurse's office. Familiarize yourself with the school layout, classroom procedures, and exit routes before assuming all duties of the regular classroom teacher. Follow the teacher's instructions or alert administration if no plans exist, ensuring sufficient supplies are available. Maintain normal classroom routines and discipline while spending the entire assignment working with students, including grading papers and leaving work summaries. Remain in the classroom if a student teacher or intern is present. No personal work is permitted. Complete initial orientation training on safety, security, and professional ethics.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree from an accredited educational institution
- Valid Teaching Certification by the State of Florida
- Valid Florida Driver License
- Knowledge of child growth and development and especially of characteristics of children in the age group assigned
- Knowledge of current educational research
- Basic understanding and knowledge of use of current technology
- Knowledge of learning styles and skill in using varied teaching methods to address student learning styles
- Skill in oral and written communication with students, parents and others
- Ability to implement activities for maximum effectiveness
- Ability to maintain appropriate student supervision so that students have a safe and orderly environment in which to learn
- Ability to work effectively with peers, administrators and others
- Complete an initial orientation/training program in School District policies and procedures addressing school safety and security procedures, educational liability laws, professional responsibilities, and ethics
- Minimum level of training at the bachelor's level
- Employment is contingent upon completing required Level 2 background screening through the Florida Care Provider Background Screening Clearinghouse
