Job Summary
Safely operate skid steers, loaders, and various attachments to load, move, spread, and place soil, gravel, sand, mulch, sod, and other landscaping materials. Excavate and remove material to required depths, then complete rough and final grading, leveling, and backfilling for sod, paving stones, retaining walls, and other landscape features. Load and unload trucks, move and stockpile materials, and work around curbs, sidewalks, buildings, trees, utilities, and vehicles using buckets, forks, sweepers, grapples, and other attachments when trained. Read grade stakes, elevations, measurements, and stringlines; assist with preparation for paving stone, retaining wall, irrigation, and planting installations; and perform general site preparation and cleanup while maintaining a clean work area. Full-time seasonal position at Park Paving in Edmonton; pay scale $25–$28/hour.
Required Qualifications
- Previous skid steer and/or loader operating experience
- Experience with grading, excavation, landscaping, or civil construction
- Ability to understand basic grades, elevations, and grade stakes
- Strong situational awareness when working around workers, utilities, vehicles, buildings, and other equipment
- Ability to safely operate equipment for extended periods
- Ability to get in and out of equipment safely and frequently throughout the day
- Ability and willingness to perform physical labour when required, including lifting up to 50 lbs
- Ability to follow directions and communicate effectively with the Foreman and other crew members
- Valid Class 5 Driver's Licence or higher
- Driving record that meets Park Paving's minimum standards
- Must have a driving record free of major infractions
- Must pass a medical/fitness exam
- Must be able to maintain a safety-minded and high accountability work culture
- Must be able to work in a physically demanding, highly productive, and high-pressure environment
- Must be able to work with operators and other crew members to perform a wide range of duties
- Must be able to work with their direct supervisors, and other employees while maintaining a positive and respectful work environment
Desired Qualifications
- Experience operating a variety of skid steer and loader attachments is considered an asset
