Job Summary
Oversee the Public Safety team by monitoring snow slopes, providing first aid response, and leading avalanche rescue operations. Conduct regular mountain inspections, enforce safety policies, and manage risk mitigation as a senior patroller. Direct daily Ski Patrol operations, develop training programs, and lead incident investigations and documentation. Act as a scene commander during emergencies, perform weather observations, and mentor staff while maintaining compliance with safety protocols.
Required Qualifications
- Advanced First Aid (80 hrs) or equivalent first aid training
- Valid BLS CPR certificate
- Canadian Avalanche Association Operations Level 1
- Must have worked in Ski Patrol or Snow Safety for five full winter seasons at Sunshine Village, or seven full winter seasons as a Ski Patroller at a similar resort (minimum 5 months per season)
- Previous leadership roles or experience
- Valid Alberta motor vehicle operator's license
- Expert skiing ability in all types of snow on challenging alpine terrain
- Able to work effectively under pressure during emergency situations
- Comfortable working at height or in exposed areas of a mountain environment
- Positive, friendly, and professional attitude
- Must be able to communicate effectively in English, both written and verbally
- Demonstration standard radio communication skills and etiquette
- Proficient with Microsoft Office products (Outlook, Excel) and familiar with InfoEx system
- Prepared to work outdoors in all weather conditions
- Prepared to work flexible schedules (weekends, holidays)
- Must be neat, alert, punctual and dependable
- The ability to exercise good judgement
- Must be able to lift 45 kg
- Requires working at heights
- Requires climbing ladders
- Ascending inclined slopes up to 60% (30°)
- Exposure to extreme environments (temperature and wind) and remote work
- Must operate machinery and works around moving equipment
- Adhere to high standards of professionalism and confidentiality
- Must be of sound mind and report to work fit for duty
Desired Qualifications
- Alberta College of Paramedics membership preferred
- Canadian Avalanche Association Introduction to Weather and Avalanche Search and Rescue 1 preferred
- Valid AB Non-Mining Avalanche Control Blaster's permit preferred
