Job Summary
Power, Violence and Resilience is a part-time, in-person course taught in the Faculty of Social Work. Using a critical framework, the course examines how structures of power and systems of oppression affect individuals and communities locally and globally, with emphasis on colonization, racism, gendered and sexual violence, structural and workplace violence, and violence against women in post-conflict settings. The course highlights micro and macro social work practices, including treatment approaches, advocacy, prevention, and community-building, while honoring survivor resilience. Candidates will teach to inform students’ understanding, reactions, and interventions, and will engage with objectives related to micro/macro practice, prevention strategies, and social justice-oriented interventions. Teaching responsibilities align with the Part-time Appointment terminology under the Contract Teaching Faculty bargaining agreement and require electronic applications with supporting materials. Eligible applicants typically hold a Master’s Degree in Social Work or related discipline (PhD an asset) and will be assessed under program rubrics and collective agreement guidelines.
Required Qualifications
- Master’s Degree in Social Work or related field
- Eligibility for appointment to the Faculty of Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies for teaching graduate courses
- PhD Degree an asset
- Contract Teaching Faculty and Part-time Librarians Collective Agreement familiarity
- Ability to teach graduate and undergraduate courses in social work and related disciplines
