Job Summary
The SSHO on US Army Corps of Engineer projects will plan, schedule, and prepare for work to reduce and eliminate hazards in advance. Serve as the on-site 'competent person' providing safety direction and ensuring adherence to safety regulations and programs with the Site Supervisor. Maintain ongoing safety meetings, conduct post-accident investigations, implement activity hazard analyses, and perform inspections to identify safety problems and implement corrective measures. Continuously evaluate site conditions and weather, conduct site orientation, and maintain positive relationships with employees and USACE. Travel to project locations for extended periods is required. Responsibilities also include promoting the organization's safety vision and performing additional duties as assigned. Desirable traits include strong leadership, communication, organizational abilities, and proficiency with Microsoft Office and Bluebeam.
Required Qualifications
- 5 years of experience as a construction safety professional in heavy construction and large utilities
- Current OSHA 30-hour certification
- Certified in competent person and confined spaces training
- Must meet USACE SSHO requirements; Prior experience working with USACE preferred
- Proficient computer skills, especially Microsoft Office and Bluebeam
- Strong leadership, analytical, organization, communication (oral and written) skills
- Excellent time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines
- Must be able to meet all safety requirements for applicable safety policies
