Job Summary
Site Safety and Health Officer (SSHO) in San Francisco supports the HSE Director at the project level to ensure compliance with company, Federal, State, and local policies and procedures regarding health, safety, and the environment. Responsible for day-to-day implementation of the project safety program, project-specific Accident Prevention Plans, and Health and Safety Plans; identifies, evaluates, and controls hazards to protect workers, property, and the environment. Projects typically involve Federal clients including USACE, US Navy, and DOE. Responsibilities include setting safety standards and PPE levels, conducting safety training, performing daily site safety inspections, coordinating air monitoring, maintaining safety records and training certifications, enforcing PPE usage, managing chemical inventory and labeling, ensuring a safe/clean job site, and STOP WORK decisions for immediate risks. Required/preferred qualifications include extensive safety experience, HAZWOPER, OSHA trainings, safety program knowledge, ability to manage subcontractors, and strong communication skills. Working conditions emphasize field-based safety work at project sites, with equal opportunity employment.
Required Qualifications
- Five (5) or more years of experience in environmental remediation, construction industry, or general industry safety experience
- OSHA 40-hour HAZWOPER training with yearly updates
- OSHA 8-hour Supervisor training
- OSHA-30 hour trained
- First-aid, CPR, BBP, and AED trained
- Training and experience conducting exposure monitoring/air sampling
- Proficient computer skills with ability to electronically track and document project information
- Ability to manage multiple subcontractors in the field for complex projects with frequent interactions with clients and regulatory personnel
Desired Qualifications
- BCSP certification (STS, CHST) preferred
- Experience with USACE Safety and Health Requirements Manual (EM385-1-1) knowledge preferred
