Job Summary
The CAD Site Plan Designer supports community planning for GL Homes by creating conceptual and detailed site layouts for residential and commercial developments. Responsibilities include planning projects, creating and iterating concept site plans using CAD software (bubble diagrams, preliminary layouts, design alternatives), interpreting project requirements and zoning constraints to produce code-compliant, practical designs, collaborating with planners, architects, and engineers, analyzing topography, utilities, and environmental factors to inform decisions, and preparing rendered plans and diagrams for internal reviews and stakeholder meetings. The role requires Florida-specific regulatory knowledge, the ability to work independently, and maintaining up-to-date knowledge of industry best practices and software updates.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s or Associate’s degree in Drafting, Civil Engineering, Architecture, Urban Planning, or related field; or an equivalent combination of education and experience
- CAD/Drafting certification may be considered in lieu of a degree
- 3+ years of AutoCAD experience in site planning for residential and commercial developments
- Proficiency in AutoCAD, Civil 3D, or similar software; experience with GIS tools and SketchUp or other rendering program is a plus
- Strong knowledge of practical and high-yielding site plan design principles, including lot layout, road geometry, site drainage, and open space integration
- Ability to work independently and produce high-quality concept plans quickly and within deadlines
- Familiarity with Florida building codes, zoning laws, and land development processes and the ability to interpret codes of various jurisdictions
- Excellent attention to detail, problem-solving skills, and visual communication abilities
