Job Summary
Site Engineer I contributes to the daily operation of Digital Realty’s data center facilities, working with the Engineering Operations team to maintain mission-critical infrastructure (generators, UPS, HVAC, fire/life safety, BMS, CMMS). The role requires expertise in electrical or mechanical work and involves creating/modifying site operating procedures, handling change-management tickets, incident reporting, site maintenance and inspections, and ensuring 24x7 uptime with adherence to SLAs. Responsibilities include understanding facility layouts and system one-lines, maintaining equipment nomenclature, SOPs/EOPs, alarm functionality and escalation, CMMS/DcIM usage, incident resolution, and developing SOPs for site equipment. Strong troubleshooting, documentation, and communication skills are essential, along with the ability to work under minimal supervision and to support safety and environmental standards.
Required Qualifications
- At least 1 year of experience in mission critical facilities operating/engineering or equivalent equipment experience
- Hands-on electrical or mechanical skill
- Knowledge of UPS systems and architectures
- Knowledge of cooling systems and architectures
- Understanding of infrastructure redundancy configurations (N+1, 2N, ATS/STS)
- Understanding of energy efficiency principles
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills
- Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook; familiarity with MS Project, AutoCAD/Visio/Adobe Acrobat
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and to work in data center environment
- Experience with CMMS, DCIM, and power metering systems
