Job Summary
Assist licensed personnel in the school environment by preparing students academically, socially, and physically for positive participation in society. Provide supplementary instruction, supervise independent study, and reinforce material introduced by teachers through small group activities and reading support. Respond to individual student needs, including personal care activities like toileting and diapering, while maintaining confidentiality and modeling acceptable social skills. Safely restrain students when necessary and report unsafe conditions in hallways, restrooms, and classrooms. Operate multimedia equipment and participate in in-service training programs under the supervision of certified teachers. Work flexible hours, including after-hours assignments, while adhering to high standards of performance and interpersonal relationships within the district.
Required Qualifications
- High School diploma or GED
- Possess or qualify for a New Mexico Level III Educational Assistant license
- CPR and First Aid training
- Demonstrate aptitude for the work to be performed
- Must be able to work within various degrees of noise, temperature, and air quality
- Must be able to see and hear the entire classroom
- Must be able to lift, carry (up to 50 pounds), climb stairs, reach, squat, and kneel
- Must be able to properly operate, or be willing to learn to operate, all multimedia equipment including current technology
- Must be able to work under stressful conditions
- Must be self-motivated and able to complete job assignments without direct supervision
- After hours work may be required
