Job Summary
Signal Maintainer responsible for preventive and corrective maintenance, inspection, and repair of the Signal System for DART, including highway grade crossing equipment, interlocking devices, cab signaling (ATP), train-to-wayside systems, fiber optics network, and power distribution centers. Maintain safe functioning of signal equipment governing train movement; respond to signal-related occurrences; troubleshoot and repair microprocessors, computers, and recorder/monitoring equipment; interpret data; work with DOT/FAA-regulated safety programs; operate in environments with variable shifts and potential travel to multiple locations; requires an Associates degree or technical certification in Signals/Electronics, ability to obtain Texas CDL Class-A, and compliance with DOT medical/drug testing. Must adhere to AREMA, FRA, APTA, and FTA rules, and demonstrate strong communication and customer-service skills.
Required Qualifications
- Associates degree from an accredited college or university or certification from an accredited technical program in Signals or Electronics
- Must pass a technical test
- Must obtain and maintain certification in compliance with all state and federal regulations applicable to this position
- Must have a valid Drivers License Class-C, and be able to obtain a Texas Commercial Drivers License (CDL) Class-A Restricted within 90 days of employment
- DOT physical (medical) examination including pre-employment drug test and random drug/alcohol testing as a condition of continued employment
- Must be able to read and comprehend technical manuals, safety rules and regulations
- Must be able to communicate effectively with the public, co-workers, supervisors and managers
- Must have excellent customer service skills and interact effectively with a diverse population
- Ability to work variable shifts, irregular hours, nights, holidays, weekends
- May be required to travel to multiple work locations
- Physical ability to be mobile and lift up to 100 pounds
- Must pass a technical test
- Must obtain and maintain certification in compliance with all state and federal regulations applicable to this position
