Job Summary
Inspect and test signal circuitry, batteries, and equipment including grade-crossing warning devices and power switches using standard electrical and/or electronic testing equipment. Compile reports detailing mileage inspected, tests performed, and repairs made, replacing required equipment as needed. Operate rail or highway vehicles to transport to wayside locations for installing, inspecting, testing, and maintaining signal systems and grade-crossing protection devices. Read schematic diagrams and understand mechanical principles to perform maintenance on automatic-block, train-control, and cab-signal systems.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED
- one to three years of related technical experience/training
- Ability to read schematic diagrams in maintenance and instruction manuals
