Job Summary

Sign Language Interpreter for UW–Madison’s Deaf & Hard of Hearing Services Program. Interpret for students, faculty, staff, program participants, and campus visitors across classes, trainings, conferences, webinars, and high‐visibility events. Prepare for requests using provided materials, research as needed, and communicate with colleagues. Provide interpretation or transliteration for advanced or technically complex academic content, applying ethical analysis to determine optimal options. Offer consultation on best practices for interpreting and working with Deaf individuals within the university community. Assist with on-call remote work assignments; schedules vary by semester with daytime/weekday and occasional evenings/weekends. Requires current RID/NAD (or equivalent) certification and relevant licensure; minimum two years interpreting experience in post-secondary settings; Bachelor’s degree preferred. Required Qualifications

  • Current RID Certification and/or NAD Certification and/or equivalent certification
  • Wisconsin Sign Language Interpreter-Advanced Hearing or Sign Language Interpreter Advanced Deaf State License, current or eligible
  • Minimum of two or more years interpreting experience with Deaf and hard of hearing people, preferably in a post-secondary setting
  • Bachelor's degree preferred (education: Bachelor's degree preferred)
  • Familiarity with common video conferencing platforms and experience interpreting for remote requests
  • Knowledge of deafness, services, and accommodations of Deaf and hard of hearing students in a post-secondary situation
