Job Summary

Sign Language Interpreter at Intermediate School District 917 (ISD 917) located at Hastings High School, Hastings, MN. Provides sign language interpreting services to deaf and hard-of-hearing students in elementary and/or secondary settings within Dakota County. Works under program supervision, maintains confidentiality within the team, and supports communication between students, teachers, and staff. May provide in-service training to teachers, students, and other consumers. Follows district policy and state/federal laws. Responsibilities include interpreting and transliterating services, adapting to optimize visual access, preparing for duties, reviewing individual education plans as appropriate, assisting with classroom activities when not interpreting, ensuring student safety, and collaborating with related service personnel and families. Position requires commitment to teamwork, ongoing training, and contributing to a positive learning environment. Qualifications emphasize sign language proficiency and certification (NAD/ACCI, EIPA, RID) and experience in educational settings; a provisional certificate is required.

Required Qualifications

  • Demonstrated skill and certification in expressive and receptive sign language interpreting.
  • Provisional Certificate required.
  • NAD/ACCI, EIPA or RID certification preferred.
  • Experience interpreting or transliterating, with experience interpreting or transliterating in an educational setting preferred.
  • Ability to work as a team player, accept a variety of interpreting assignments at different locations when assigned, and support the development of student consumers' language, communication, self-advocacy, and other developmental needs in collaboration with other educational team members
  • Willingness and ability to work with students receiving special education services.
  • Ability to work as an effective member of a team with staff, parents, and the community through the building and maintaining of collaborative and positive relationships.
  • Basic computer and email skills. Proficient in core educational subject areas.
