Job Summary

Provide interpreting and transliterating for students, staff, and adults with hearing loss in all educational settings, adhering to the student's IEP and CAIU confidentiality policies. Prepare assignments by discussing environmental adjustments with speakers and Deaf or Hard of Hearing individuals, then promote direct communication between teachers while maintaining ethical standards. Develop student goals, assess progress, and report outcomes to the IEP team, while also participating in team meetings to provide feedback on interpreter use. When not interpreting, support the classroom environment, manage student interns, and serve as a resource for research-based practices. Maintain a portfolio of materials and commit to ongoing professional development through workshops and publications.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree
  • Minimum of 3.5 (4.0 preferred) on the Educational Interpreter Performance Assessment (EIPA)
  • Ability to draw from a broad spectrum of knowledge in general studies (humanities, sciences, and the arts) and interpreting (theory, psycholinguistics, and ethical behavior specific to the educational setting) in order to interpret K-12 coursework
  • Ability to effectively interpret/transliterate in a variety of modes (American Sign Language, (ASL), Pidgin Signed English (PSE))
  • Ability to meet all mandates that the state of PA requires of Educational Interpreters
  • Proficient computer skills and knowledge including use of Word, Excel, Outlook, and other software as may be required

  • 4.0 on the Educational Interpreter Performance Assessment (EIPA)
