Shoreline Maintenance Technician

Job Summary
Maintain South Padre Island's coastal resources by cleaning beach/dune systems, operating power construction equipment, and performing landscaping, carpentry, and plumbing work on infrastructure. Remove debris by hand or machine, drive vehicles for hauling materials, and conduct routine inspections of boat ramps, access points, and amenities. Perform preventative maintenance on City equipment and tools, manage records for inspections, and assist with sample collection. Adhere to safety standards and City purchasing policies while working long hours, including early mornings, late evenings, and on-call rotations. Bilingual Spanish and English preferred.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Two (2) years of related work experience in increasingly responsible maintenance work or a related field
- Valid state driver's license or ability to obtain one within 90 days of hire
- Considerable knowledge of equipment, facilities, materials, methods and procedures used in maintenance, construction, carpentry, plumbing and repair activities
- Skill in the operation of the listed tools and equipment
- Ability to perform heavy manual tasks for extended periods of time while remaining safe
- Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, other departments and the public
- Ability to understand and carry out written and oral instructions
- Ability to use hands to finger, handle, feel or operate objects, tools, or controls
- Ability to reach with hands and arms
- Ability to stand, walk, or hear
- Ability to sit, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl
- Hand-eye coordination
- Ability to lift and/or move up to thirty (30) pounds
- Ability to lift and/or move more than one-hundred (100) pounds
