Job Summary
Inspect customer equipment for weld and salvage possibilities using visual inspection and diagnostic tools. Fabricate and repair construction and mining equipment parts, including frames, engines, and hydraulic systems, while troubleshooting with minimal direction. Write detailed service reports and generate cost-effective job estimates based on troubleshooting data. Operate mining and construction equipment and maintain a clean workplace by servicing welding machines. Work rotating shifts including days, evenings, and nights, with occasional out-of-town travel and overtime as needed.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Minimum of 5 years professional welding experience
- Exposure to construction and mining equipment thru Technical Schools or on-the-job training as a welder at a repair shop, construction company, small contractor or mine
- Able to read, write, speak and understand English
- Able to read and understand parts books, service manuals and fabrication blueprints following ANSI, SAE and/or Caterpillar's blueprinting standards
- Able to hand sketch drawings legibly enough for other welders to understand and follow
- Welding background
- Able to think and work their way through difficult project or problems
- Able to diagnose and assess to equipment to fabricate repairs
- Certified AWS D1.1
- Able to read and comprehend service literature and basic measuring tools
- Able to know and understand basic arithmetic
- Able to write meaningful and legible service reports
- Know and understand various types of systems on a large number of different kinds of equipment
- Able to lift up to 50 lbs
- Able to climb ladders
- May be required to have a CDL
- May be required to have current MSHA training
- Able to work a rotating shift; to include days, evening and nights
- May be required to work out of town occasionally
- Work overtime as needed
