Job Summary
Inspect customer equipment for weld or salvage possibilities using diagnostic and measuring tools, then weld, fabricate, and repair frames, engines, hydraulic systems, and power train components. Write detailed service reports documenting job nature and completed work while reviewing inspection data to generate cost-effective estimates and parts orders. Operate mining and construction equipment, troubleshoot malfunctions with minimal direction, and maintain welding machines and a clean workspace. Work rotating shifts including days, evenings, and nights, with occasional overtime and potential out-of-town travel.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum four years of previous welding experience
- 2 of which include heavy equipment experience
- Minimum of 5 years professional welding experience
- Exposure to construction and mining equipment thru Technical Schools or on-the-job training as a welder at a repair shop, construction company, small contractor or mine
- Able to read, write, speak and understand English
- read and understand parts books, service manuals and fabrication blueprints following ANSI, SAE and/or Caterpillar's blueprinting standards
- Able to hand sketch drawings legibly enough for other welders to understand and follow
- Welding background
- Able to think and work their way through difficult project or problems
- Able to diagnose and assess to equipment to fabricate repairs
- May be required to have a CDL
- May be required to have current MSHA training
- Certified AWS D1.1
- Able to read and comprehend service literature and basic measuring tools and to know and understand basic arithmetic
- Able to write meaningful and legible service reports
- Know and understand various types of systems on a large number of different kinds of equipment
- Able to lift up to 50 lbs
- Able to work a rotating shift; to include days, evening and nights
- May be required to work out of town occasionally
- Work overtime as needed
- High school diploma or equivalent
