Job Summary
Shop Technicians diagnose, service, troubleshoot, repair, and rebuild engines, construction, mining, on-highway trucks, forklifts, and components. Positions include Apprentice I, II, Shop Technician, and Master Technician, each requiring increasing levels of heavy equipment experience and mechanical understanding. Essential functions include troubleshooting equipment using diagnostic tools, performing repairs, following safety standards, and effective communication. Candidates must hold a high school diploma or equivalent, possess relevant technical certifications or experience, and be knowledgeable in several mechanical areas. Physical requirements involve heavy lifting and working in various environmental conditions.
Required Qualifications
- Certificate from a Technical school or equivalent work experience
- Minimum heavy equipment experience varies by level from 1 to 10 years depending on the position
- Knowledge in gearing, bearings, seals, bushings, diesel, and hydraulics
- Effective communication skills, both written and oral
- Ability to read and understand technical documentation and schematics
Desired Qualifications
- Ability to think and work through difficult projects or problems
- Mechanical aptitude
- Basic PC skills
- Ability to learn Cat software systems
