Job Summary
Shop Technicians are responsible for diagnosing, servicing, troubleshooting, repairing, and rebuilding engines, trucks, and various heavy equipment. They must perform inspections using diagnostic equipment, remove and replace components, and follow work quality and safety standards. Positions vary from Apprentice levels to Master level, requiring varying years of heavy equipment experience and technical understanding of Caterpillar mechanical systems. The role demands effective communication, mechanical aptitude, and the ability to operate tools and equipment safely.
Required Qualifications
- Certificate from Technical school
- Strong mechanical aptitude
- Minimum one year of previous heavy equipment experience
- Two years of previous heavy equipment experience for Apprentice II
- Minimum four years of previous heavy equipment experience for Shop level
- Minimum ten years of previous heavy equipment experience for Master level
- Ability to read and interpret parts books, service manuals, and schematics
- Basic PC skills
- Ability to safely operate motor vehicles and job-related equipment
