Job Summary
Shop Technicians are responsible for diagnosing, servicing, troubleshooting, repairing, and rebuilding engines and various types of heavy equipment such as construction and mining vehicles. Essential functions include troubleshooting inspection, effective communication, and adhering to safety standards. Positions range from Apprentice levels to Master Technicians, requiring varying degrees of mechanical knowledge and experience in heavy equipment. Key skills include understanding mechanical systems, using diagnostic equipment, and operating machinery safely. A high school education or equivalent, and technical certification or related experience is required.
Required Qualifications
- Certificate from Technical school or equivalent work experience
- Minimum of two years of previous heavy equipment experience for Apprentice II
- Minimum four years of previous heavy equipment experience for Shop level
- Minimum ten years of previous heavy equipment experience for Master level
- Knowledge of gearing, bearings, seals, bushings, diesel and hydraulics
- Ability to read and understand parts books, service manuals and system schematics
- Ability to effectively communicate with others
- Basic PC skills and ability to learn Cat software systems
