Shop Mechanic (Diesel & Heavy Equipment)

Job Summary

Diagnose, rebuild, and repair vehicles and heavy construction equipment, including digger derricks, man-lifts, truck-mounted cranes, and directional drills. Requisition parts and equipment, perform inspections and preventive maintenance, and set up new vehicles. Safely drive various vehicles to transport equipment, conducting pre- and post-trip inspections while obtaining necessary permits and licenses. Prepare and maintain records and reports, and establish working relationships with employees and outside agencies. Requires a Class A CDL, valid DOT medical card, own tools, and experience with power tools, hydraulic systems, and diagnostic equipment. 10-hour shifts Monday through Thursday and 8-hour Friday.

Required Qualifications

  • 3+ years of experience and/or training in maintenance and repair of trucks and/or heavy equipment
  • education in diesel technology or related field
  • a combination of education, training, and experience that demonstrates the ability to perform the position's duties
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Must have or be able to obtain a class A CDL
  • DOT medical card
  • safe driving record
  • valid driver's license according to legal requirements
  • Experience with power tools
  • experience with hand tools
  • diagnostic equipment
  • operation of vehicles and equipment for diagnostic purposes
  • mechanic design and fabrication
  • Knowledge of safety practices and procedures
  • Communicate effectively verbally and in writing
  • Must have own tools

  • Subject to the Company's DOT Substance Abuse Testing Program

  • Considerable knowledge of methods, materials, tools, and techniques used in vehicle and equipment repair and maintenance

  • Skills including the use of power and hand tools
