Job Summary
Shop Manager responsible for overseeing fleet maintenance operations at a First Student location. Directly supervises shop staff, schedules maintenance, coordinates with dispatch and the Location Manager, and ensures safe working conditions and regulatory compliance. Manages budgets, reviews repair orders, coordinates parts and subcontract repairs, and leads training and performance reviews. The role includes hands-on maintenance work, wage and personnel decisions, and ensuring maintenance efficiency and safety across diesel-engine and school bus equipment.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Technical training preferred
- Willingness to participate in the ASE certification program (training, testing, and bonuses provided)
- Valid driver's license required; willingness to obtain CDL while employed - we provide training
- 5+ years of hands-on mechanical supervisory experience
- Experience repairing and maintaining diesel engines and school bus equipment is preferred
- Must be able to perform hands-on work in a maintenance shop
- Ability to review repair orders and budget variances
- Strong written and oral communication skills
- Computer skills for maintenance management and reporting
