Shop Manager

Job Summary
Oversees a large, complex maintenance shop’s operations, including equipment lifecycle, preventive maintenance scheduling, safety, and HR-related processes (talent management, training, performance management), with collaboration to corporate HR; responsible for payroll accuracy, hiring, training, counseling, terminations, compliance with policies and government regulations, and maintaining cross-department relationships. Directs investigations into complaints with HR, enforces safety and administrative rules, conducts staff meetings, and represents the company before government or legal entities. Requires extensive leadership experience, mechanical aptitude across multiple fleets, travel ability, and strong communication skills. Physical demands include lifting up to ~20 lbs and frequent interaction with machinery in varied environments. Must be able to obtain and maintain required certifications and pass background/drug screenings; authorization to work in the US is required.
Required Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED, or equivalent
- Minimum of 5 years’ experience in maintenance shop leadership in the trucking industry
- Ability to travel
- Knowledge of FMCSA rules and regulations
- Familiar with American Transportation Association (ATA) parts’ system codes
- Mechanical ability with tractors, trailers, forklifts, engines and related equipment
- Experience with Navistar, Freightliner, Kenworth, Volvo engines, Cummins, Detroit, Volvo, Paccar and MaxxForce engines; trailers of all brands; Hyster and Moffett forklifts
- Valid Driver’s License and acceptable MVR
- Strong Microsoft Office skills and AS400 knowledge is a plus
- Basic math and typing skills
- Excellent verbal, written and listening communication skills
- Organized with strong time management skills
- Proven leadership abilities in team building, coaching and performance management
- Willing to work any shift, nights, weekends and in any weather conditions
- Able to lift approximately 20 lbs or more
- Ability to comply with all company policies, rules, procedures and Code of Conduct
- Ability to interact well with others
- Ability to work independently or in a team
- Capable of working under tight deadlines in a high-volume environment
- Ability to read and interpret safety rules, operation manuals and maintenance instructions
- Pass a pre-employment drug screen and background check
- Must be authorized to work in the United States
