Job Summary
Inspects, services, and rebuilds equipment; performs preventive maintenance; tests vehicles for safety; coordinates with shop manager; oversees ongoing vehicle maintenance program; learns operating procedures for all NCI vehicles and equipment; conducts road calls when vehicles are disabled; evaluates work by outside contractors; assists in developing short/long-range maintenance plans; recommends equipment replacements to ensure fleet effectiveness; trains drivers to recognize problems before malfunctions occur; coordinates activities with shop manager to schedule work, set priorities, and direct subordinate mechanics; supervises and participates in the construction of specialized tools and equipment; oversees overhauls and rebuilds of trucks, tractors, pumps, cranes, and other gasoline/diesel equipment; inspects defective machinery to determine causes and reports needs for repairs; operates machines to run tests and produce experimental products; inspects work-in-progress and finished products; confers with supervisors to coordinate department activities; performs activities of workers supervised.
