Shop Fabrication Manager

Job Summary
Lead daily shop operations by directing fabrication planning, scheduling, and production output for structural steel, piping, and specialty metalwork. Manage material flow, work orders, cut lists, and resource allocation while ensuring compliance with engineering drawings, welding codes, and delivery timelines. Enforce safety policies through daily briefings, audits, and corrective actions to maintain a zero-incident culture. Supervise welders, fitters, and support staff, overseeing hiring, training, and shift planning. Collaborate with Project Management, Engineering, and Procurement to forecast manpower and equipment needs, supporting estimating with technical input and shop rate analysis. Maintain shop readiness by managing tools, consumables, and equipment. Apply AWS and ASME code knowledge to verify weld procedures and inspections, driving continuous improvement in throughput and tooling.
Required Qualifications
- 5–10+ years of fabrication shop experience with increasing leadership responsibility
- Strong knowledge of welding, structural steel, piping, and industrial fabrication practices
- Understanding of AWS, ASME, and related fabrication/welding codes
- Strong leader with the ability to motivate, direct, and mentor crews
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to work cross-functionally
- Highly organized with strong planning and follow-through
- Ability to read drawings, interpret fabrication details, and solve problems quickly
- Proficiency with fabrication management software, scheduling tools, and Microsoft Office
- Ability to review and interpret blueprints, weld maps, and shop documentation
