Shipyard General Laborer

Job Summary

Support marine and industrial crews by moving materials, setting up and cleaning work areas, and performing general labor tasks as directed. Load, unload, stage, and organize equipment while assisting with basic surface preparation, pressure washing, and tool maintenance. Safely use hand and power tools, manage hoses and ventilation equipment, and support painters, blasters, and scaffold crews. Follow all job-specific instructions, safety procedures, and hazard signs while wearing required PPE. Report unsafe conditions, damaged equipment, or injuries immediately. Work effectively as part of a team to complete projects safely and on schedule.

Required Qualifications

  • Ability to perform physically demanding work for extended periods
  • Ability to safely use basic hand and power tools when trained
  • Ability to understand and follow verbal and written instructions
  • Willingness to learn new skills and support multiple trades and work activities
  • Ability to work safely in active marine and industrial environments
  • Strong commitment to safety, dependability, attendance, and teamwork
  • Lift up to 70 pounds without assistance
  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, stoop, kneel, reach, push, and pull throughout the work shift
  • Ability to work in confined spaces
  • Ability to work aboard maritime vessels and in active shipyard and industrial environments
  • Ability to climb ladders, scaffolding, stairs, and access elevated work areas
  • Ability to wear required personal protective equipment (PPE), including protective clothing, respiratory protection, and fall protection when required
  • Ability to perform work in varying weather and environmental conditions
  • Reliable transportation
  • Must be able to successfully pass a background investigation
  • Must be available to work overtime, weekends, and occasional night shifts based on project requirements

Desired Qualifications

  • Previous general labor, construction, shipyard, marine, industrial, manufacturing, or related experience
  • Previous experience working in a shipyard, marine, construction, manufacturing, or heavy industrial environment
  • Experience supporting marine coatings, abrasive blasting, scaffolding, containment, or industrial access crews
  • Current TWIC Credential or the ability to obtain one if required for assigned work
  • Forklift, JLG, aerial man-lift, or other applicable equipment training or certifications
