Job Summary
Shipping and Receiving Clerk responsible for inspecting and processing incoming/outgoing shipments. Responsibilities include comparing items to bills of lading, invoices, and orders; routing items to departments; determining shipment method; creating and affixing shipping labels; assembling containers; inserting items into containers; labeling crates with shipping information; posting weights and shipping charges; unpacking and examining shipments; recording shortages and coordinating with shippers to resolve damages; ensuring outgoing shipments meet specifications; maintaining inventory of shipping materials; operating a tier lift truck or hand truck to move shipments; and performing other duties as assigned. Requires reading and following safety/maintenance manuals, performing basic arithmetic, and effective communication with colleagues and customers. Physical demands include standing, lifting and moving heavy items (over 50 pounds), and typical moderate noise in a warehouse environment.
Required Qualifications
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals
- Ability to write routine reports and correspondence
- Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization
- Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals
- Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs
- Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form
- Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations
- Basic Computer Skills including use of email may be required
