Job Summary
Shipfitter 1st Class to perform steel and aluminum structural work in repair and modernization of marine vessels with minimal supervision. Requires reading and interpreting drawings and specifications, knowledge of ship terminology, blueprint reading, measurements, and ability to convey information to supervisors. Must have five years of related experience, pass written/practical tests and drug screen, and comply with OSHA PPE requirements. On-site role with lodging option, long-term project in the Moss Point, MS area. Must be able to work overtime, five-day weeks with possible weekend work.
Required Qualifications
- Five (5) years of related experience
- Possess experience in ship repair terminology
- Ability to read and interpret structural drawings (including weld symbols)
- Experience fabricating templates, squaring plates, scribing in structures, and installing perpendiculars on ships in accordance with drawings
- Experience using oxy-acetylene torch and Plasma for cutting and washing
- Welding experience: SMAW (S-11A) (fillet) FCAW (S-1) (fillet) GMAW (S-25) (fillet)
- Ability to read ship terminology and blueprints
- Ability to take measurements using metric and US customary systems
- Ability to comprehend instructions and general correspondence
- Be physically and medically capable of wearing PPE per OSHA standards
- Ability to write CFRs describing material condition and provide recommendations
- Ability to communicate findings to supervisor and small groups
- Must pass written and practical test
- Must pass physical and drug screen
- OSHA standards compliance
- PPE required at all times
- Long term project in Florida (per description)
