Job Summary
Fabricate templates for bending ship structures, frames, and bulkheads; assist with measurements, layout, and cutting of nonstandard parts. Perform pre and post weld checks, including chipping, beveling, grinding, and cleaning surfaces using power and hand tools. Brace structures in position for welding while maintaining worksite cleanliness. Deliver materials as required and perform duties as Fire Watch. Participate in special projects and travel to other locations as needed. This role is located in Chula Vista, CA, and requires 1+ years of shipfitting trade experience.
Required Qualifications
- High School diploma or GED
- 1+ years of experience in the shipfitting trade
- Must be able to successfully pass a criminal background check and obtain and maintain a security badge for all military installations and civilian shipyards as needed
- Must be able to read and understand material safety data sheets (MDS)
- Able to follow safety procedures
- Must be able to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals
- Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form
- Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations
- Must possess basic computer skills to enter data into different data basis
- Must be able to lift objects weighing up to 50 pounds
- Employees may be required to travel for work to other locations
