Job Summary
Fabricate templates for bending ship structures, frames, and bulkheads; assist with measurements, layout, and cutting of templates. Complete pre and post weld checks while performing chipping, beveling, grinding, and cleaning of surfaces using power and hand tools. Brace structures in position for welding and deliver materials as required. Maintain worksite cleanliness and perform duties as Fire Watch. Participate in special projects and travel to other locations as needed. This role requires 1-5 years of shipfitting experience, US citizenship, and a valid DBIDS card.
Required Qualifications
- US Citizen
- High School diploma or GED
- 1-5 years of experience in the shipfitting trade
- Ability to access all work locations, including government and private shipyards and/or vessels
- Must be able to obtain and retain Defense Biometric Identification System (DBIDS) card
- Must be able to successfully pass a criminal background check
- Must be able to obtain and maintain a security badge for all military installations and civilian shipyards as needed
- Must be able to read and understand material safety data sheets (MDS)
- Able to follow safety procedures
- Must be able to stand, walk, sit, use hands, reach with hands and arms, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, talk and/or hear
- Frequently required to carry objects that might weigh up to 50 pounds
