Job Summary
Shipfitter with 5-8 years of direct experience sought to lay out, fabricate, install, and repair hull/mechanical/electrical structures for naval ship alteration and repair in San Diego. Responsibilities include laying out work from instructions, ensuring watertight hull integrity, manufacturing and installing structural items, repairing damaged ship structures, creating welds and fittings, preparing surfaces for welding/riveting, and coordinating multiple trades from technical documents and blueprints. Must interpret installation drawings, read NAVSEA standards, and obtain required clearances and credentials. Must be capable of lifting heavy equipment, working in shipyards and confined spaces, and willing to travel. US citizenship required.
Required Qualifications
- High school, trade or vocational school degree
- 5-8 years of direct experience in ship repair and HM&E systems
- Ability to read and interpret ship installation drawings, installation specifications
- Must have or be able to obtain SECRET clearance
- Must have ability to obtain base access and security credentials
- Ability to lift, carry, and transport heavy equipment (no less than 30 lbs)
- Ability to work on and climb ladders, in extreme environments, aboard ships, shipyards, and confined spaces
- Travel may be required within and outside the continental United States
