Job Summary
Shipfitter who fabricates, assembles, and installs large metal structural parts (plates, bulkheads, strong backs, turnbuckles, come-along). Aligns parts per blueprints or reference lines, tacks/welds foundations and structural members, and marks hole locations for drilling. Performs lay out work, uses wedges and temporary fasteners to hold parts for welding or riveting. Requires three years journeyman experience with blueprint reading and ship terminology; T-1 FCAW welding certificate required or highly recommended; ability to pass hands-on and written assessments; capable of working at heights and in confined spaces; must read/understand safety instructions in English. Strong welding, burning, and craftsmanship skills; mechanical ability preferred. High school education/equivalent preferred. Assessment includes welding 2G/3G/4G, cutting, scarfing, fitting and tack welding; flexibility to work all shifts. Must have strong mechanical skills and solid employment history. Safety awareness and dexterity across various physical tasks are essential.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum three years of journeyman level experience
- T-1 welding certificate required for FCAW (flux core)
- Welding certification for FCAW/SMAW preferred
- Ability to pass hands-on assessment and written test
- Must be able to work at heights, in confined spaces, and on any assigned shift
- Must comprehend written and verbal instructions (in English)
- Must be able to hear warning signals and read safety instructions
