Job Summary
Shipfitter needed for Norfolk, VA to perform ship repair, modernization, and Alteration Installation Team projects. Responsibilities include assembling, laying out, fabricating, and installing structural metal parts per blueprints/specifications; welding, cutting, grinding; interpreting ship construction drawings; ensuring watertight integrity; coordinating multiple trades; and inspecting completed assemblies for conformance to specifications and safety standards. Requires strong blueprint-reading, fabrication, and shop skills, plus ability to pass background/physical and obtain security clearance. High school diploma or GED preferred; 5-8 years marine/industrial ship fitting experience; ability to read drawings; willingness to work in a shipyard environment with PPE and variable conditions.
Required Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED preferred
- Minimum 5-8 years of marine or industrial ship fitting experience
- Proficient in blueprint reading and layout techniques
- Familiarity with welding, burning, and cutting tools
- Ability to pass pre-employment physical and background check
- Must be authorized to work in the United States
- Ability to obtain & maintain a Secret clearance
