Job Summary
Lay out and fabricate metal structural parts such as plates, bulkheads, and frames; brace them within the hull for riveting or welding, and prepare molds/templates for nonstandard parts while using blueprints and templates. Perform layout of parts from blueprints, mark reference lines, and align components with jacks and fixtures. Install packing, gaskets, and structural accessories, tack weld components, and work with minimal supervision. Read blueprints, use hand and power tools, and apply safety and OSHA regulations; maintain flexibility to meet daily duties and potentially work overtime or on weekends. Must have 3–5 years of shipfitting experience, knowledge of materials and tools, and the ability to weld/tack weld using appropriate electrodes and techniques.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED equivalent
- Three to five years of shipfitting experience
- Knowledge of ship terminology and OSHA regulations
- Ability to read and comprehend blueprints and diagrams
- Ability to read a tape measure and perform basic math
- Experience with cutting and welding processes including TIG/MIG and aluminum
- Ability to tack weld with 7018/6011 stainless rod, MIG, and aluminum
- Ability to work with hand and power tools
- Able to work flexible hours including overtime, weekends, and holidays
