Job Summary
Shipfitter 1/C responsible for fitting structural items and assemblies, reading and interpreting blueprints, sketches, and templates, and performing tack welding of small assemblies in aluminum and steel foundations and outfitting items. Duties include template creation, laying out and fitting components, working with presses and forming, and installing doors, ladders, and foundations. Must navigate confined spaces (manholes) and adhere to industry codes and safety requirements, including PPE. Ability to read and interpret blueprints and templates, perform riveted joint repairs, and conduct shop and field fabrication. Must be able to work independently and with reliable attendance, and must be a US citizen. Pay ranges from $26.00 to $30.00 per hour plus a $125 per diem for non-local assignments. Located in Chesapeake, Virginia, USA.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum of five years of Fitting experience
- Technical training preferred
- Knowledge of and ability to use hand tools and instruments associated with the Fitting trade
- Must be able to work effectively with others
- Comprehend blueprints, sketches, and templates.
- Tack welding
- Read and understand blueprints and templates
- Possess PPE requirements (hard hat, safety glasses, steel toe boots/shoes, respirator)
- US citizenship required
