Job Summary
Ship Fitters needed for a Florida shipyard. Responsibilities include performing steel structural work in all stages of new marine vessel construction, reading and interpreting blueprints/drawings, following job specifications, and complying with OSHA PPE standards. Candidates should have experience with ship terminology, weld symbols, templates fabrication, oxy-acetylene/plasma cutting, and safe use of hand/power tools. Three years of related experience preferred; housing assistance and per-diem available. Bilingual Spanish-speaking applicants encouraged.
Required Qualifications
- Be physically and medically capable of wearing PPE per OSHA standards
- Three (3) years of related experience
- Ability to read and interpret structural drawings (including weld symbols)
- Experience reading blueprints and ship construction terminology
- Experience fabricating templates, squaring plates, and installing perpendiculars on ships
- Experience using oxy-acetylene torch and Plasma for cutting and welding
- Ability to use hand and power tools safely
- Understand proper operation of structural shop fabrication equipment
- Ability to take measurements in US customary and metric systems
